As 2018 is fast approaching, now is a time when I normally set some goals for the coming year. Do you too?
Whether you are spending days meticulously planning your year, or just a couple moments thinking of a few things you’d like to create, if you’re like most Americans, you have or will do some kind of goal setting this month.
I read a startling statistic in U.S. News the other day… 80% of New Year’s Resolutions Fail by February.
I have to be honest with you, I found that stat depressing when I first read it. My first thought was… what’s the point of setting 2018 goals then?
But then I realized I’m not like most people. I have a tool in my belt that has really helped me achieve most goals I’ve had lately. In just the past few years I have…
- Gotten in the best shape of my life
- Left my job in entertainment to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur
- Built a huge audience on Instagram who I’m totally in love with
- Started creating and am in the process of launching my first ever PROGRAM!!
And I want to share that tool with you today… I call it the Life Detox.
The one thing I do that really helps me cross the finish line on all of my goals is taking time for a little LIFE DETOX!
Think about it this way… in order to effectively reach our goals, we need to first be conscious or aware of what is in the way.
What’s preventing you from already having those goals right now? It’s about identifying how have you been self-sabotaging your own success.
DISCLAIMER: Before we keep going, I want to make sure you read the rest of this article without self-judgment. It’s completely normal to have factors in your life that are getting in the way of you and your goals. Maybe even things you have never been aware of before! The important part is to (kindly) do something about it when you do notice them.
Now let’s get into the 2 Life Detox strategies I want to share with you today.
1: Assess if the relationships in your life are positive/supportive of your goals.
You are only as good as those you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with those who inspire you to be a better person. Those who empower you and lift you higher. People who nourish your soul. People who you can learn from. People who you can grow with.
For example, if you have a healthy eating goal but you also have a friend who constantly pressures you to eat sweets when you are together, then it’s time to either have an honest dialogue with her about supporting your goals or to spend less time with her.
This is not about unceremoniously cutting people out of your life (although you may see fit to remove yourself from some relationships and circles), but it’s about putting your goals first and taking a real look at who you are spending your time around to see if it supports those goals.
2: Maximize the time you spend on positive activities.
This is a big one, and it can be tricky! Take an honest look at where you spend your time.
Time is our most precious resource. Are you spending time on things that uplift you, are positive, and/or grow you into the person you want to become? Or are you spending time on activities that make you shrink or get you off your game.
For example, if you hike with your girlfriends every Saturday and you spend the whole time gossiping or talking down on other people… is that really helping you move forward? If not, see if you can shift the conversation or consider doing something else.
I know this Life Detox process can be tough. Sometimes we need to say goodbye to people, places, or activities that we once loved, but it’s all part of the process to create the life you dream of and reach your goals.
