Let’s stop focusing on counting calories and checking that number on the scale and focus on NOURISHING ourselves with what we need to RENEW & RECONNECT so we can be our best self this year.
This year shouldn’t be about changing who you are. You are already amazing! Instead, it should be all about #NewYearRenewYou! So let’s focus on how we can THRIVE in 2018!
Ready to renew and recharge this year? Here are four important ways to reconnect with your body this year to make your wellness practice a LIFESTYLE instead of just a passing resolution.
1. NOURISH YOUR BODY!
This year it’s all about feeding your body what it NEEDS to thrive! Aside from HYDRATING, focus on eliminating toxic foods and beverages and start incorporating more nourishing foods such as greens, veggies, lean protein, healthy fats and carbs at every meal.
I know getting in veggies at every meal can be a struggle for many, which is why I like to start my day with a healthy Green Warrior Smoothie packed with veggies, fruit and healthy protein from my favorite company, Orgain! In the recipe below, I used their new Vanilla Bean Organic Protein packed with 50 SUPERFOODS and 1 Billion Probiotics! Talk about getting a nutritional “bang” for your buck.
SIERRA’S GREEN WARRIOR GREEN SMOOTHIE:
- 1/2 small avocado
- 1/2 green apple
- 1 small Persian cucumber
- Handful or cup of frozen spinach
- Dash of cinnamon
- 1 serving Orgain Vanilla Bean Superfoods Protein
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (add 1/4 cup more for a thinner consistency)
Blend blend blend until creamy and smooth!
My friends are Orgain are also hosting a New Year’s Renewal Getaway Sweepstakes for two, valued at $5000! For details and to enter, go to Orgain.com/renew.
2. RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES
Make sure you are creating time and space to RECONNECT with yourself in the new year, and part of that is making the time to workout.
I don’t know about you, but I usually feel renewed after a workout, both physically (from the exertion) and mentally (from doing something good for my body).
Check out these blog posts or videos for super easy work out ideas that require little to no equipment (you don’t need a gym membership either!):
Are you getting enough sleep? If you’re like most Americans, the answer is probably no. But sleep is a crucial way we renew and recharge, so what do you do about it?
If you need to increase your sleep hours, start small. Add 1 hr, and work backwards from when you need to get up to give yourself a hard time to be in bed.
It might be hard at first to wind down earlier, and if that’s the case then try implementing a short wind-down routine that will help your body know it’s time for bed. Here’s an example:
30 min before your bedtime…
- Wash your face and brush your teeth
- Get under the covers
- Spend 5 minutes journaling what you are grateful for
- Read a light novel or book until your eyelids get heavy
4. RECONNECT WITH WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT
Don’t forget to make gratitude and reconnecting with your body a part of your daily routine. This will help you avoid a feeling of overwhelm or being out of control of your daily activities, and it can be a simple process.
Here are my top favorite ways to reconnect with yourself:
- Read a thought-provoking book (see my recommendations here)
- Do a life detox (full instructions here)
- Acknowledge 3 things you are grateful for (get my free self-love starter kit for a daily printable to help you with this)
Now it’s your turn! Which of these 4 ways are you going to implement in your life? Comment below to let me know.
